What IELTS courses cost in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah in 2026, what to check before you book, and how to choose between a group course, private lessons and self-study.

Looking for the best IELTS course in Dubai or Ras Al Khaimah? In 2026, most group IELTS preparation courses in Dubai cost between AED 460 and AED 1,500, and private IELTS lessons usually cost AED 190 to AED 375 an hour. The best course for you is the one that matches your current level, your target band and your test date, includes full mock exams with marked feedback on Writing and Speaking, and keeps classes small enough that you actually speak. This guide shows you what to compare, what IELTS courses cost, and how to decide between a group course, private lessons and self-study.

How much does an IELTS course cost in Dubai?

Prices vary a lot, so compare the price per hour and what's included, not just the headline price.

  • Short, low-cost courses (AED 450 to 700): often 10 to 20 hours. Fine for a refresher on the test format if your English is already strong.
  • Standard group courses (AED 800 to 1,500): usually 20 to 40 hours, with practice tests. This is where most learners should look.
  • Premium or private programmes (AED 1,500 and up): smaller groups or one-to-one teaching, often with more Writing and Speaking feedback.
  • Private lessons: around AED 190 to AED 375 an hour in Dubai. At Speak, private lessons are AED 335 for one hour, with packs from AED 1,555 for 5 hours. See our Private One-to-One course.

7 things to check before you choose an IELTS course

  1. Your level before you start. IELTS courses work best from about B1 (intermediate). If you're below that, a General English course first will save you time and money. Not sure? Take our free English level test, and read what each level means in our CEFR levels guide.
  2. Full mock exams, marked by a teacher. You need to sit at least one or two complete tests under exam conditions, with a band score for each skill. Self-marked online tests don't tell you your real Writing and Speaking band.
  3. Written feedback on Writing. Writing is the skill where most candidates lose marks. A good course marks your essays against the four official criteria and shows you how to fix them. Our IELTS Writing Task 2 guide explains what examiners look for.
  4. Live Speaking practice. You should practise all three parts of the Speaking test with a teacher, not just read model answers. See our IELTS Speaking guide.
  5. Class size. Ask for the maximum number of students per class. Smaller classes mean more speaking time and more feedback.
  6. Academic or General Training. Check the course covers the version you're taking. Reading and Writing are different in each version. Read IELTS Academic vs General Training if you're not sure.
  7. Schedule and start dates. If you work, look for evening and weekend classes. Ask when the next course starts and plan your test date for shortly after it ends.

Group course, private lessons or self-study?

  • Group course: best value for most people. You get structure, regular mock tests, speaking partners and feedback. Choose this if you're at B1 or above and have 3 to 8 weeks before your test.
  • Private lessons: best if you need one specific skill (often Writing or Speaking), have an urgent test date, or need a high band such as 7 or 7.5 for nursing or immigration. You pay more per hour, but every minute is about your mistakes.
  • Self-study: works for confident learners who need only a small improvement. Use official practice materials and our best online IELTS resources, but book at least one marked mock test so you know your real level.

Many students combine the two: a group course for structure, then one or two private sessions on their weakest skill.

How long should an IELTS course be?

It depends on how far you are from your target band. As a rough guide, moving up one band takes many hours of study, not days. If you're already close to your target, a focused 3 to 4-week course with mock exams is often enough. If you need a full band or more, plan for a longer route, usually General English first and IELTS preparation after. Read how long it takes to get the IELTS score you need for realistic timelines, including 1-month and 3-month plans.

What score do you need?

Before you choose a course, check the exact score you need, including the minimum for each skill. Universities, visas and professional bodies often set different minimums for Writing or Speaking. Our guide to IELTS score requirements in 2026 covers Canada, the UK, Australia, nursing and universities. To work out your overall band from your section scores, use our IELTS band score calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best IELTS course in Dubai?

There is no single best course for everyone. The best one fits your level, target band and schedule, includes full marked mock exams and feedback on Writing and Speaking, and has small classes. Compare price per hour and what's included before you book.

How much does an IELTS course cost in Dubai?

Most group IELTS courses in Dubai cost AED 460 to AED 1,500, and private IELTS lessons cost about AED 190 to AED 375 an hour (September 2026). The IELTS exam fee is paid separately to the test centre.

Is the IELTS exam fee included in the course price?

Usually not. You book and pay for the official test with the British Council or IDP. Preparation schools like Speak English Institute are not test centres.

Can I prepare for IELTS in 1 month?

Yes, if you're already close to your target band. A 3 to 4-week intensive course with mock exams can raise your score by improving your exam technique, especially in Writing and Speaking. If you need a whole band or more, allow more time.

Is an online IELTS course as good as a classroom course?

It can be, if it includes live classes and teacher feedback on your Writing and Speaking. Recorded videos alone rarely improve Writing and Speaking scores.

Do you offer IELTS courses in Ras Al Khaimah?

Yes. Speak English Institute runs the same IELTS Preparation course and mock test at our Ras Al Khaimah campus in Al Hamra, at the same price as Dubai.
