At Speak English Institute, we don’t just keep learning confined to the classroom- we also aim to have a fun, friendly and social atmosphere so that our lovely students can relax and chat outside of lessons to practise their English. We’ve been to a number of local cafes in the last month- some of which, like Public Cafe, are becoming a regular watering-hole.
Here is a brief review of some of the cafes we’ve been to so far:
A Greek run Cafe in Cluster T with a nice open feel and plenty of light inside. They also have a small bookshelf with recipe books and games like scrabble and chess. We’ve been there many times, playing scrabble, chatting and for the Speak book club.
This cafe is the closest to Speak English and they are always ready to rearrange the tables for our students when we come with a big group. Last time we went there were at least ten of us! We tried to play Chinese whispers but it was not very successful as the ‘whispers’ were too loud!
Shake and Sheikh:
An American diner style restaurant with plenty of room for a big group. We ordered drinks and salads for the most part- the Speak English students seem to be very health conscious!
: Dragana introduced us to a little Serbian cafe in JLT for our weekly book club meeting. We enjoyed spinach borek and cevapi and a nice shaded view over the JLT lakes. We are beginning to discover the many opportunities in JLT to try food from around the world, especially with students to guide us when trying food from their homeland.
